WIP – Me!

This morning I took a walk with my niece. Why am I telling you this?  Because it’s a big deal.  You see, I have some weight to lose.  Not a little.  A lot.  And my niece has now made me her project.  I’ve decided to share this with you because then it becomes real to me.  I mean, if people know I’m on a weight loss journey I’m more likely to stay strong.  Because I sure don’t want anyone seeing me swinging through a Tim Horton’s drive-thru… 🙂

Anyway, more about my niece. This girl is amazing. AMAZING.  She has struggled with her weight since she was young and a year ago she decided to do something about it.  In that year she has lost more than 50 pounds.  Say what????  Yep, she is pretty serious about this.

Now some people may not think that’s such a big deal, but here’s the kicker.  She’s 14 years old.  14.  Started her journey at the age of 13. On her own.   Has read and researched and has a higher than normal understanding of nutrition and the importance of exercise.  She’s being smart about it too.  She hasn’t jumped on the bandwagon of all the fad diets.  She’s just making really smart food choices and getting in her exercise.  When a special day comes around, she just deals with it gracefully and moves on. I believe this really has become a life change for her.

I’m so proud of her.

Last week we were talking and one of the things she said to me was “Aunt Beth, stop talking about it and just do it.” DUH!!!!!!!

So here we are today, just doing it.

I wanted to share this because this girl never ceases to amaze me. So, once in a while I’ll post an update but I promise not to bombard you with weight loss stories and such. After all, this is a quilting blog.  But I will post about my progress occasionally, because I consider myself to be a Work In Progress.  Maybe one day the weight loss will be a “Friday Finish.”

Have a great week!

  1. Good for you, and good for your niece! She sounds like she’ll be great motivation.

    Good luck!

I really need to eat better and exercise but I find it hard — particularly the exercise because I find it so BORING 🙁 I wish I had the drive to just go for it !

  3. Melissa says:

You go sister! So much in the phrase “just do it”! Your niece
Is my niece as well and I must tell you she has been
The topic at a lot of our dinners lately! What a great girl
And such an inspiration to the whole family! Making a quilt to tell
Your story would be an awesome project! You inspire so many people in so many ways
I’m loving the blog Beth! Keep it up!

  4. Your niece sounds like a strong, smart lady. 🙂 I went through a process similar to this a few years ago. Walking is really key for me, and I also started exercising at a Curves (it felt safe to be around women, you know?).

I love to hear from you! I read all your comments and will respond by email to you.
