New Toy For Me!

It’s been a little quiet here on the blog the last few days but I have a very good reason and it’s time for me to share.  There’s been a lot of playing going on at my house. Actually, it’s really work but it feels like play because it’s so much fun. I have been fortunate enough to bring home a Handi Quilter Sweet Sixteen machine and I’m just so pleased with it.

Handi Quilter Sweet Sixteen

It has been in my sewing room a couple of weeks and I’ve been spending time getting to know her. I’ve quilted two quilts and have practiced on multiple quilt sandwiches.

I will say, it feels a lot different than quilting on my sewing machine and that is taking some getting used to. The speed at which I quilt on this machine is different than the speed I use on my sewing machine but I like that. I also love the LED lights that focus on the area around the needle; its so much easier to see my stitches.

Even though there is a bit of a learning curve, it has been pretty easy to jump in and get used to the little quirks. And it’s so much less stress on my shoulders and arms! The first quilt I did was about 65″ x 70″ and I finished it in two hours.  Whoa baby!

I have lots of projects going on right now and with the addition of a new machine I’m feeling just a bit overwhelmed. (See that mess in the back corner of the pic? That adds to my stress – I hate working in a mess!) So, if it’s a little quiet here just know that I’m still in that sewing room stitching away!

I do have a couple of finishes to show you but the weather has been so rainy and ugly I can’t get good pics for you. Hopefully we’ll have some nice weather soon and you’ll get to see what I’ve been doing.

Now, does anyone have an idea for a name for my newest family member? 🙂

I think this counts as a WIP so I’m linking up with WIP Wednesday.  Be sure to check out all the great projects!

Enjoy her, you will have time skip away from you easily, I did. My friend just calls hers Sweetie, mine came named Tiara already. Whatever you call her have fun!

  5. I responded to you comment on my blog before reading yours! Congrats on the new machine. This is one of the ones I am considering so I will be following you and seeing how you fare. Enjoy and good luck.

How exciting! I would love a quilting machine but don’t have the room at the moment. I did play on a Juki recently that only did straight stitching which I may have to invest in as a temporary measure until I can persuade one of my children to move out! Have fun with your new toy, started following you so I can what you make with it.

I really am so excited for you. It is wonderful getting to know a new machine. Have fun! Maybe her name will just come to you. I have no ideas.

One of these is on my “wishlist” for when I can afford a machine upgrade! My current machine does piecing etc just fine, so I really don’t need another regular sewing machine to do that — especially when a sewing machine with fancy quilting features would end up costing about the same or near abouts to a S16 anyway!

  9. You have been busy getting to know your new machine! Excellent! How about Sylvia? All the “S”s in the machine name seem to lend toward an S name – Sweet Sylvia. Sweet Sally. But I’m kind of into alliteration like that. 🙂
