New Music Saturday – Rising Star

Music Saturday

Like millions of others, I was first introduced to Grace VanderWaal as the 12-year-old ukelele player/singer/songwriter contestant on America’s Got Talent last year.

Grace went on to win the talent competition, and has recently released her first album “Just the Beginning”.  She has been named Rising Star 2017 by Billboard and you can see her performance and touching acceptance speech here.

I have to say, I can’t get enough of the music on this album. I am so impressed by Grace’s song writing skills. Her phrasing is interesting, and her songs show a maturity beyond her years. Her voice instantly grabs your attention, and on top of that, the music is just plain fun!

‘So Much More Than This’ was the first song off her album that I heard, so I’m sharing it with you here. I highly suggest you give a listen to the others on the CD. A few of my favs:  ‘Just a Crush’ makes me smile when I hear it, ‘Talk Good’ lyrics sound like something straight from my head, and ‘Insane Sometimes’ could have been written by someone with much more experience than a 13 year old. Can you tell how much I enjoy this music?? I hope you enjoy it as well!
