MCM #59 – It’s Midnight (Somewhere) and It’s a Mystery!

Oh, I crack myself up sometimes….(this is what happens when it’s late and I’m writing blog post titles).

It’s time to set my February One Monthly Goal and I have decided it’s high time I finished a top I started in July, 2015! Yep, Cheryl’s Midnight Mystery quilt-along started that summer. I kept up with the first couple of months and then the whole thing got away from me.

I was feeling bad that I never finished the quilt, so last September I dug out the project and completed one more step. Then packed it away again. Until now.

This is what the project looks like right now:

February OMG

My goal is to have a completed flimsy by the end of the month. I would like to have it totally quilted and bound, but I know that’s asking too much as I have two other quilts I need to get done.  So I’ll be happy with a flimsy. Wish me luck!

Have you set your February OMG yet? It’s not too late! Join me in linking up with Patty @ Elm Street Quilts for the One Monthly Goal party.

In other news, I finished making a new tote for the Nine Patch Totebag with Recessed Zipper tutorial. (I know, this one is only a six patch….I’ll explain in the tutorial. 🙂 )

I have to say, I’m really loving it. What is it about a hand made bag that makes my heart sing? Anyway, I am almost done updating the tutorial and I will have it up for you guys this week.

On Sunday our local quilt shop held a “Super Bolt Sunday” with every bolt in the store 30% off. Say what? And, if you finished the bolt it was 35% off. Aaannndddd, there were two tables of fabric bolts marked 60% off.

Who could resist that?? Not me!

The good news is that my M-I-L asked me to make her a quilt, so much of what I bought was for her quilt using her money. Shopping on someone else’s dime is lots of fun, and with such a good sale I was able to get everything we need. (My 108″ wide backing fabric was #3.17/yard!!!!!!!)  So add that quilt to my To Do list this week!

That is all my Main Crush Monday goodness for this week. I have plenty to keep me busy and excited to be in my sewing room.

Now it’s time to see yours! But first, a few highlights from last week’s party.

Erin of The Lazy Quilter (love the name of her blog) touched me last week with her post about participating in swaps. She was talking about a little extra she added for her swap partner and stated:  “we are making things that are beautiful and even when it doesn’t seem like it right now to just trust the instincts and the beauty will come.”  I needed desperately to hear that last week – thank you Erin!

This is a good time to remind you that even though sometimes it might feel as if we’re blogging in a vacuum, we’re not. Someone somewhere is reading what we write, and we never know when our words will have an impact. So keep on blogging!

Sandra of mmm! Quilts has started a new linky party for all those ‘stop everything and make it’ projects we find ourselves doing. Hop over to her blog for all the details. I know I have tons of squirrel projects, and I bet a lot of other quilters do too.

Zafira of Zarkadia Quilts is new to our party. Hi Zafira! She shared her lovely baby quilt made with Cotton & Steel. Gotta love those C&S fabrics, especially when paired up with a scrumptious navy blue!

Okay – now it’s YOUR turn to share your MCM projects for this week. We would love to see what you are working on and what has you excited to be in your sewing space. You can link up any blog post, Instagram or Flickr pic – here’s how:

  1. Two sentences especially resonate in this post “somewhere someone is reading your words” and about putting something beautiful into the world, “trust your instincts and the beauty will come”. Thanks Beth. I needed that too. A concrete thing resonated…your LQS! I’ll be up there next month, visiting Tish…sounds like that shop is one I’d LOVE to visit, especially if I could still find some AHH-mazing deals like 60% off and 108″ backing for (choke, splutter) $3.17!! Maybe YOU’d be in the ‘hood?? (we’ll chat)

  2. Great fabrics for the quilt. Thanks for linking up with Elm Street Quilts One Monthly Goal and good luck on your project.

Thank you for sharing my photo. I’m finally catching up now it’s the weekend and I am just so touched to see it here. You’re right about the blogging in a vacuum feeling, so I’m incredibly moved that something I wrote in my little corner of the Internet meant something to you xx
3 quilts in a month is an ambitious goal! I have a WIP pile that I’m choosing to pretend doesn’t exist, in the hopes it’ll fix itself, but I probably need to just start pulling some out.
Look forward to seeing all your coming makes.
    E xx

Is it wrong that I’m really really looking forward to seeing your MIL’s quilt 0:) It must be a quilting thing…I think the shop in Elkins does a Super Bowl Sunday sale as well. I’m glad to see that Midnight Mystery is back out again. I love those fabrics and they should really become a finished top 🙂

  7. I look forward to seeing how your mystery quilt comes together! I’m already starting to worry about getting everything I need to complete before I head off to QuiltCon in just under 2 weeks. We can do this! 🙂
