MCM #56 – Fabric Acquisitions

You guys. I’ve got news. BIG news.

My Twelve Year quilt is done! Finished. Washed. Dried. Done.

And she is gorgeous.

Unfortunately, you can’t see her yet.

We’ve had the worst weather for taking pictures, and I want you to see her at her best. I am sooooo hoping to have a day this week when the sun peeks through the leaden sky and I can capture some pictures of her. And when I do, you’ll be the first to see her.

She is my first OMG project, and I’m so excited to have her finished in the middle of the month. I have to say, I was pretty motivated.

So. While we wait for pictures, I’m going to show you what I did over the weekend.

I went shopping. I bought way too much, but I have a plan for all of it so that’s okay, right? I even had a squirrel moment and started on the plan. Then common sense jumped in and I got back on track. Whew!

But here’s where I am so far:

Gotta love those HSTs!

I was just so excited to see that my local quilt shop has started carrying a few bolts of Quilter’s Linen by Robert Kaufman. And…drum roll please….they have even started stocking a few bolts of Grunge!! While I was in the store, one lady commented that Grunge is her favorite fabric line and I had to laugh. The store owner isn’t sold on it but is carrying it due to customer demand. So it was fun to hear her say how much she loved Grunge, and it made me smile.

The Quilter’s Linen is going to be a big hit too – 9 yards of the white flew off the shelf while I was there. I hope they restock soon!

I also picked up backing for the ombre quilt I’m working on.

Backing fabric for Ombre Quilt

This will look okay but I’m not super excited about it. The fabric feels a bit stiff and now I’m second guessing my choice. I know I’ll use it since I bought it specifically for that quilt. Hopefully it will all work out.

My goals for this week are to get the ombre quilt basted and start on the quilting. I have some great variegated threads I’m excited to use – it’s going to look so good! I also want to get the instructions written for a new quilt pattern I’m working on, so there’s a lot going on here this week and all of it is crush-worthy. 🙂

Now, let’s take a look at a couple of the great projects that were linked up last week.

Jenn @ A Quarter Inch from the Edge shared her adorable mini mini quilt. I love the way she stitched the little hopping lines for those sweet bunnies! Jenn has a love for all things Kona. Her posts are always a fun read; I hope you’ll check it out.

Cindy from Stitchin At Home designed a quilt block for the 30 Quilt Block Design Challenge and then turned it into a mini quilt. The quilting is really nice, and the soft colors are so pretty. I really like how this looks.

Erin of The Lazy Quilter (don’t you love that blog name??) shares the story behind this beautiful cross quilt. It was fun to read her honest post – we’ve all had days where we’ve felt exactly like she did. Go check it out!

Love that melon (pumpkin? fall leaf?) colored fabric. Have you washed it? Sometimes fabrics just stay stiff and it drives me CRAZY. It looks good with the block hanging around with it. Looking forward to seeing the finished quilt.

12 Years?! That is amazing and congrats for finishing it. I don’t think I would have finished something from that long ago! I’m so excited to see your pictures!

I love Grunge! Just was saying in…hey! the post I just linked that I think I need to pick up some more of the colours! Love the reds and grey/blues and whites you got for your next project…squirrel…boy you are good at resisting. Me? Not so much. And ya Cindy’s mini (a DrEAMi!) is just gorgeous. Funny how some things ‘get’ you like that-my house block was one that I did nothing else from sitting down to draft to sewing the block up!

  12. Great fabrics!!! and congrats on the finish! Hope the weather gets better
