MCM #46 – Quilting a King Quilt

Last week was busy with lots of things that aren’t sewing related. It’s probably going to be that way for the next few weeks and I’m trying to tell myself it’s okay.  After all, it is a busy season and there is a lot to do!

Hubby and I got some news that will require us to make some changes at home, so we spent our time last week dealing with that. Because of everything going on, I wasn’t able to spend much time on the computer. I appreciate everyone who commented and linked up last week and apologize for not responding or doing much blog reading. This week will most definitely be different!

I finished the top of my orange scrap quilt last week. I took your advice and added a 1″ sashing between the blocks and I love the look of it. I’m excited to quilt it, but that will have to wait a bit because of this huge project I am quilting right now:

Twirl Pattern by Amber Johnson

This top measures 90″x 99″. I basted it last week – boy, what a job that was! I had some help from my sweet niece Kayla, but she wasn’t very thrilled with all that pinning. 🙂

Pin Basting King Size QuiltI have been working on the quilting for a couple of days. It has been pretty slow progress because I haven’t been able to dedicate big blocks of time to it. I hope to have it done before Christmas, so fingers crossed! This quilt is for my sister (not a gift) and she is anxiously waiting for me to finish it.

I definitely love this quilt and all the fabrics we chose to use. The pattern is ‘Twirl’ by Amber Johnson. I like the way some of the blocks look as if they’re spinning. It’s an illusion – there is no curve piecing in the top. Yay!

So, this is what I’ll be working on this week. I would love to see what projects you are making, and what has you excited to be in your sewing space. What is your crush? You can link up any blog post, Instagram or Flickr pic – here’s how:

About Beth

I'm a wife, mother of two, and lover of all things crafty. I love to cook up new things in the kitchen and in my craft room, and sometimes get "licking the spoon" mixed up with "licking the fabric"!!

  7. It does sound like you had quite the week last week, Beth. I hope that this week is back to more “normal” for you and that you have fun quilting the king quilt for your sister. I think some of the fabrics you chose really enhance the spinning feel of the blocks – lovely!

Beautiful quilt. I can’t wait to see that when it’s finished because it is going to be stunning. How are you going to quilt it ?

That quilt is fabulous. Good for you for taking the time to hand quilt it, said a longarmer. Little chunks of time add up. Have a great week with at least some quilting time.
