MCM #24 – Road Trip

Road Trip Button
In a few days my mother and I are taking off on a road trip – a long one. Well, long for me since I’ll be doing all the driving both there and back. We have family in Georgia and Mom is going to stay with her sister for several weeks. It’s a trip she’s looked forward to for a while.

I will be staying for a few days and then making the drive back by myself. I’m excited and looking at this as an opportunity to find a quilt shop or two (or three, four….you get the picture) to break up the long drive.

So, if you know of any great places I should try to fit in on my trip through Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, or Southern West Virgina I would love to hear from you.

In addition to getting ready for my trip, I’ve been busily quilting away on a quilt that is almost finished. I haven’t shown any pictures of this quilt yet, but hopefully will be able to share it with you soon.

It will be a busy week this week, and I am all sorts of excited to have this mini vacation coming up. That is my crush for this Main Crush Monday  – how about you? I would love to see what you are working on or what has you excited to be in your sewing space this week. You can link up any blog post or Instagram or Flickr pic – here’s how:

About Beth

I'm a wife, mother of two, and lover of all things crafty. I love to cook up new things in the kitchen and in my craft room, and sometimes get "licking the spoon" mixed up with "licking the fabric"!!

There is a fun national shop hop that just started. I would check it out. Have fun and be safe!

Drive safely and have a fantastic trip! It’s a lot of driving but I think you are going to have a wonderful time 🙂

If you are traveling through NC on I 85, then Mary Jo’s in Gastonia is a terrific stop; if you traveling on I 95, then stop at Loving Stitches in Fayetteville….

A must stop on any road trip through North Carolina is Mary Jo’s Cloth World in Gastonia. It’s huge and a mecca for quilters in the Mid-Atlantic region. Good Mary Jo’s and fabric, and you’ll get an idea.

For non-quilty activiites, if you are coming up I95 in Virginia, just south of Richmond, there is the Blandford Church in Petersburg. It has 15 Tiffany windows that are gorgeous. The Richmond Art Museum is also wonderful. Historic houses include Mount Vernon, Woodlawn, Montpelier and Monticello, depending on where in Virginia you are headed. There’s always Williamsburg and Jamestown too. After spouting these sights off the top of my head, I should ask you where in Virginia you will be. Let me know, and I can probably give you a list of the quilt shops in these areas.

Safe Travels and have a good time with your mom. In Wilmington, NC there is a wonderful store called Sew Happins. I think it’s in Marietta, GA – Little Quilts. Can’t wait to see photos.

  8. I hope you enjoy your time with your family. It’s rare we all get together as we get older, so drink in the memories, Beth, and don’t think about what you have sitting at home to do.

  9. I hope that your busy week goes well as you prepare for the trip – and safe travels! Sorry that I can’t recommend any quilt shops offhand, but I bet you’ll find some to visit. 🙂
