MCM #23 – Playing Catch Up

I very rarely have more than a couple of projects going on at the same time. I’m the kind of person that likes to work on one project until it’s finished and then move on to the next one.

If you looked in my sewing room right now you would not believe what I just told you. I was going to post a picture but it is so bad I don’t even want to look at it, let alone force you to!

I currently have four projects going on, yes four, and even though it is a bit overwhelming I’m pretty excited about all of them. So I’ve got a lot to crush on this week!

Matchstick QuiltingI have made no progress on my hourglass quilt. I really wanted to post a finish last week, but other things got in the way and that didn’t happen. But I’ve got big plans for this week, so hopefully I’ll get the quilting finished and the binding on it. Thank you so much to everyone who commented on the quilting and gave your suggestions for quilting the hourglass shapes. I’m going with the majority and leaving the prints un-quilted. This will save me some time, so finishing this one is a real possibility.

I also want to give a shout out to Yvonne for suggesting Angela Walter’s book “Shape by Shape” – it should be here on Tuesday. I’m excited to see her book and practice some of the designs.

Although I didn’t make any progress on the hourglass quilt, I did manage to decide on the second block design going in the Basic Grey quilt.

Churn Dash Block variation

Aren’t those the cutest leaves?? Because I only have a jelly roll and charm packs of this line, I needed a design that would work with those fabric sizes. After doing some playing around this block is what I decided on. A few days after making the blocks, I saw a picture of it in a quilt on a magazine cover but I couldn’t get to the magazine. I’ve been trying to find out what this block is called. Does anyone know? I would love to find out. It reminds me of a churn dash block without the dash. Until I find out the real name I’m calling it Dashless…. 🙂

I am also working on a project that I’m not ready to share just yet, but I’m super excited about. Here’s a bit of what I’ve been busy with today:

Strips for quilt block

I can’t wait until it’s further along so you can see it. It’s not secret work, just not ready to be shared.

So those are the things I’m crushing on this week for Main Crush Monday. How about you? I would love to see what you are working on and what has you excited to be in your sewing space.  You can link up any blog post or Instagram or Flickr pic – here’s how:

For my daughter’s college graduation, I made a “You’ve Come a Long Way, Baby!” Quilt by alternating appliquéed blocks of her various shoes from childhood on, with pieced “Shoo Fly” blocks. A terrible pun, I know, but I just couldn’t resist!

I know the block has its own name when the corner triangles are large like this, but in 60 pages of Quilter’s Cache I couldn’t find that exact one. We swapped that block one year, and I just cannot remember what it’s called. It’s very like several other blocks, but not. LOL I do love the fabric you used to make it, though. It has it’s own name, not just Shoo Fly variation. I’ll come across it somewhere, but I’ll have forgotten by then who wanted to know. LOL

  4. Come over to the dark side where we have lots of UFO’s just sitting around waiting on us! : – )

  5. I really like the leaf print – and I especially like how you got them all pointed the same way in the block (my OCD side really appreciates that)! I hope you enjoy Angela’s book as much as I do; it has been so handy for me!

I bet you are having a lot of fun with the projects though. The new block looks great, I really like the leaf fabric.

LOL, I was going to say Shoo Fly too 🙂 Really love those lines in the white in the hourglass quilt!

OH, I cannot wait to see what you make with those blue fabrics!!

  8. Jasmine says:

Love the Shoo Fly block. 🙂 I feel scattered when I have more projects at the same time, but I figure any progress is good.

  10. Hi, Beth. Your block is called Shoo Fly (I found it in EQ7). I love your quilting on your hourglass quilt!

I love to hear from you! I read all your comments and will respond by email to you.
