MCM #1 – Almost There!

Welcome, welcome to the first Main Crush Monday linky party of 2016!! I am so excited for this year because I know it holds big things for everyone in the Cooking Up Quilts house. My hope is that the best comes to you in 2016 as well, and that you have your best year ever!

Last week I made so much progress on the quilting on the Twirl quilt; you might have seen a few of the progress pictures I posted on Instagram. I am *this close* to being finished and have decided that it WILL be done this week, no matter how late in the night I have to quilt.  Because let’s face it – it feels like I’ve been working on this thing forever, and I have a long to do list that’s waiting for me to tackle. (That sound you just heard was me putting my foot down – hard…) This quilt would have been done, but I took a 3 day break to visit the in-laws for the holidays. I would say that is a pretty legitimate excuse…..

Crosshatch Quilting with FillAs you can see from the above picture, there is a large crosshatch design with matchstick-ish quilting filling in some of the squares. Because the blocks are set on point, there are large triangular areas all around the quilt. This quilting fills in those areas. It took me longer to do than anticipated (I always underestimate how long it will take me to quilt a design), because of all the ruler work. However, I love the way it looks and feels.

I also love the way the quilting shows on the back. Here’s a glimpse:

Texture of Quilting

This almost finished quilt is definitely my crush for this week. What’s yours? I would love to see what you are working on and what has you excited to be in your sewing space this week. You can link up any blog post or Instagram or Flickr pic – here’s how:

I love the blocks you filled in. I always wondered how quilters kept those straight. You’ve probably got it done by now. I work late into the night to get projects finished too.

I had not seen your link until now – new I assume from what I gather. I am working on a Postage Stamp quilt with 1.5 inch pieces I got another half way on it recently – I will keep plugging away on it until it is queen size – heaven knows plenty of scraps – haven’t made a dent.

Beth, I love the cross hatching you created using the back and forth lines and the teaser shot from the back of the quilt 🙂 Can’t wait to see the big reveal. You’re almost done, you got this!
