I’m so excited! It seems that everyday brings something new and exciting to my quilting world. I’ve already shown you the Happy Diamonds quilt top in this post, so you can see why I want to get it finished as soon as possible. Yesterday I got brave and started machine quilting my quilt.
I’ve been a little worried about quilting with my home machine, so I’ve done a lot – I mean a LOT – of reading on the subject. Finally, because I want to get this quilt finished so badly (and you can only do so much reading before trying), I just decided to jump in and do it. And guess what? It’s not nearly as scary as I thought it would be!
First I made sure I took my time and basted the layers together really well. I’ve had a bad experience with puckers on the back of another quilt and didn’t want that to happen here. Because it’s a small quilt, I was able to baste it on my kitchen island. Which is better for me cause I didn’t have to crawl around on the floor! Then, I rolled up one side and started quilting in the center. I’m doing simple straight line quilting and I’m happy with the way it’s turning out. So far, no puckers! A walking foot is really helping here:
I’m going to be doing a post in a few days of my experience with machine quilting this quilt and tell you about the things I did right and some things I will change when I do my next one.
Here’s another shot of the first half of the quilt. Don’t you just love that happy green fabric that’s on the back?
So, my project this week is to get the quilting and binding finished on the Happy Diamonds quilt. Hopefully, this will be a Friday Finish!!
What are you working on this week?
I’m linking up with WIP Wednesday at Freshly Pieced. Be sure to check out all the other works in progress!
